HOW TO KILL BED BUGS

BED BUG TREATMENT

Bed bugs are not just a problem in the inner cities or multi-unit housing developments; they’re everywhere and they are becoming a worldwide epidemic. There’s been a 500% increase in bed bugs in recent years. Bed bugs are human parasites, they drink our blood every 5 to 7 days like vampires. We humans are their main food supply and they live exclusively on blood.

Bed bugs hide in cracks and crevices just waiting for their next victim. They are skilled at going unnoticed considering that an adult bed bug is actually the size of an apple seed. Their normally fast runners, but once they’ve had their blood meal they can barely woddle back to their hiding places. Once in their hiding places they mate and reproduce. The infested area is full of dark fecal matter, molted exoskeletons, white egg shells and the resident bed bugs themselves.  In some cases of highly infested areas, the actual mattress or fabric can be eaten away. If during the daylight hours you actually see bed bugs scurrying around, chances are you have a major infestation on your hands.

BED BUGS LOS ANGELES

Bed bugs are social insects that will live in clusters with other bed bugs. An adult is about a ¼” long and oval shaped. They are reddish brown, flattened, almost paper thin, until they become engorged after a blood meal. A nymph, baby bed bug is very small and can go unnoticed with the naked eye. They are translucent until their first blood meal, were a brown to bright red spot develops in their abdomen. Bed bug eggs are sticky, white and very small, laid in clusters of 1 to 50. Throughout her lifetime one female can lay hundreds of eggs.

A newly born nymph will feed immediately. All bed bugs including nymphs will continually look for a host if they cannot feed. They look for exposed skin, but are attracted to the carbon dioxide that we breathe and our body heat that we produce. After feeding they use a pheromone or chemical trial to locate their nesting place or other bed bugs. If there are no hosts for a bed bug to feed, they can lay dormant for months on end, just waiting for an unwilling victim.
